THE STATIONMASTER’S MANSION
Home Open: Saturday, 25-January-2020, 10:30 AM to 11:00 AM
They don’t build them like they used to! 105 years ago, in 1915 this amazing historic home was built for the Midland Railway Stationmaster. When you stand out front on the verandah with the massive half wooden barrels planted with apricot and pink Frangipanis you feel like you have been transported to a bygone era…you are in a country town looking out from your solid and dependable single terrace house. A beautiful old fashioned front door beckons you into that classic broad, long polished jarrah hallway with high ceilings, chunky bevelled architraves in the doorways and skirting boards that lead your eye past two huge bedrooms with those amazing old solid window frames…it feels cool literally (and metaphorically)…and you continue down the hallway and into what would have been the old Stationmaster's living room, but wait there is a staircase!
Of course, you want to see what is at the top, more antique wonder no doubt? No, instead you are greeted by a fantastic recent second story addition that includes an enormous master bedroom with a walk-in wardrobe and truly immense modern bathroom that spans the whole width of the house, luxury. This master bedroom come with a beautiful outlook with views of aged gumtrees out to Hazelmere that add to the feeling you are in a country town. Look down and there is a beautiful swimming pool (we’ll get to that soon).
Back down stairs to the living room that in the ‘good ol’ days’ would have led us into the tiny kitchen (with Kooka stove of course), the tiny bathroom and the old laundry with a copper boiler….instead you get the ‘wow factor’ of an ultra-modern extension with an enormous gourmet kitchen, an open plan living/entertainment area, floor to ceiling glass sliding doors that open onto a wood decked covered outdoor entertainment space with full length built in BBQ outdoor kitchen. With the respect that the property deserves, the owner has kept the old wood fired Kooka stove which is now an outdoor oven. This outdoor space is the perfect place to sit with friends and family with a cold beer or glass of bubbly after a swim…oh yes 7 Amherst Road has a wonderful big curved pool surrounded by lush gardens! A sneaky oasis springs to mind.
Back inside… just off the exquisite contemporary kitchen is another spectacular bathroom with a free-standing Voguish bathtub and double width shower. When you enter this home, you feel like you are in 1915 but by the time you reach the backyard you feel like you have been transported to 2019. This is a time machine not a house where modern and vintage merge. In the distance you can almost hear the sound of a steam train’s whistle, amazing.
All this is a hop, skip and jump from Midland with its historic beauty and groovy new café culture, mega shopping (Midland Gate). You are on the doorstep of the Swan Valley, behind you is Hazelmere and beautiful farmland, the upper Swan and Helena Rivers, horse riding…then you have the hills to explore, the John Forrest National Park, Mundaring. Great parks, Woodbridge primary school is almost next door. Woodbridge has a very ‘country’ community feel to it.
