Alkimos

Welcome to Alkimos

Alkimos is a relaxing welcoming coastal suburb nestled among Banksia woodland and a wonderful array of native fauna.

It is a new, family-friendly settlement with an extraordinarily good offering of education and child care options for such a fledgling suburb.

Located just 15km north of Joondalup and 40km north of Perth, Alkimos has quickly become an environment that fosters community spirit and a laid-back beachy lifestyle.

New schools, shopping centres, tavern and the popular Alkimos Surf Life Saving Club are all reasons why people have made Alkimos home.

The suburb was named after a cargo ship that ran aground on rocks in 1963. The vessel was built during World War II and was initially used for troop and cargo transport in the Mediterranean and was regularly attacked by German aircraft and U-boats. After the war, the ship was sold to a Greek company and renamed Alkimos, meaning ‘strong’. The wreck sits a few hundred metres off the shore of Alkimos beach and remains a popular diving spot.

Lifestyle

Sipping a latte at a beachside café while the kids play in the waterfront park or swim in the reef-protected waters of one of Perth’s most gorgeous beaches is all part of life in Alkimos.

Locals spend their days walking the pristine stretch between Shorehaven and Alkimos Beach, or chillaxing on the grassy, uncrowded open spaces that grace the foreshore. The Trinity Alkimos Playground is also incredible and plans are afoot for a state-of-the-art aquatic centre.
